July 1 Update: Some tickets remain, to be sold on a first come, first served basis at the registration desk at Argyllshire Gathering Halls starting midday, Monday 16th July, cash only (no cards, no cheques).
Free with registration to the Gathering and no limit to the number of tickets, but please register for this event anyway so that we know how many folks will be attending.
At the 2018 Gathering, we want to reunite as many families as possible by working on a special MacIntyre DNA project. So many Highland families were disrupted by social upheaval, the Clearances, wars, migration, and poverty; with some families losing contact as recently as two or three generations ago. A lot of us have first and second cousins we’ve never met. Most of us have third and fourth cousins that we don’t even know exist.
A local member of the Clan MacIntyre Trust—Valerie Bichener in Oban—has undertaken a study of both sides of her own family through DNA and has been hard at work on our DNA Facebook group by matching up long-lost relatives in advance of the Gathering.
Before the hectic week of activities kicks off, we want to get people together in their family groups. I’m sure we’ll have a lot to talk about at the reunion, and then we’ll have all week to become properly acquainted with our cousins.
Possible features of this reunion:
- Family groupings.
- Local Oban genealogy research.
- Discussion of family lines and family trees.
If you haven’t managed to find a cousin through DNA testing prior to the Gathering, you are still very welcome to come along to the reunion and find out how others went through the DNA matching process.
The reunion will start at 3.30pm and will finish at 5.30pm to allow time for setting up the Welcome Reception. Tea and coffee will be available.

Caution
These activities are still “proposed” until we have sufficient registrations to cover costs of running each event or activity. We will do our very best to provide activities as listed; however, they may be cancelled or modified due to bad weather, lack of attendance, changes in availability of transport, or any other factors beyond our control.
If a tour is undersubscribed and is cancelled, we will work with you to find a replacement activity or tour.
Please read the event descriptions carefully and use your own good judgment as to whether an activity is within or outside your physical ability. If you feel it might be beyond your ability please tell us as soon as possible. We will do everything in our power to provide modifications or assistance, but in some cases it won’t be possible or feasible for some people to take part in some activities.
