July 1 Update: There is a possibility of one or two tickets remaining, to be sold on a first come, first served basis at the registration desk at Argyllshire Gathering Halls starting midday, Monday 16th July, cash only (no cards, no cheques).

Shuttle buses departing and returning to Argyllshire Gathering Halls. Limit 20 tickets for each hike time.

Colin McIntyre, our Expedition Coordinator, will lead groups up to the Stone of the White Calf, the very large stone where the MacIntyres delivered a snowball and a white calf to the Campbells on Midsummer’s Day, either as death duty for a fatal altercation c. 1440 or as rental payment for Glenoe.

The Stone is on the other side of the mountain pass from Glenoe and is a steep climb, although most of it is on a road. The road actually belongs to the Cruachan Hydroelectric plant that is literally beneath Ben Cruachan.

We will hire a minibus to take you to within about 55 metres/60 yards/180 feet of the Stone. Due to time constraints, the fact that the road accomodates only a smaller bus, and the logistics of getting the bus up there, the hikes will be by reservation only and the total numbers will be limited. To maximise your chances of participating, we have four trips planned: two on Wednesday and two on Thursday. Each trip will take around three hours. Please note that even though the distance from the bus drop-off to the Stone is very short, the walk is on an incline up a hillside, the ground will likely be boggy and wet, and the hike is not recommended for those with mobility issues. You are welcome to take the bus up to the drop-off point and enjoy the view from there if the walk is beyond your capabilities.

A ticket includes the shuttle bus to Cruachan.

You can buy event tickets only if you have already registered for the Gathering. Please ensure you have done this before trying to buy tickets. Your username and password were emailed when you created a user account after registering.

Caution

These activities are still “proposed” until we have sufficient registrations to cover costs of running each event or activity. We will do our very best to provide activities as listed; however, they may be cancelled or modified due to bad weather, lack of attendance, changes in availability of transport, or any other factors beyond our control.

If a tour is undersubscribed and is cancelled, we will work with you to find a replacement activity or tour.

Please read the event descriptions carefully and use your own good judgment as to whether an activity is within or outside your physical ability. If you feel it might be beyond your ability please tell us as soon as possible. We will do everything in our power to provide modifications or assistance, but in some cases it won’t be possible or feasible for some people to take part in some activities.

Update June 29: We have reopened three seats for this hike, to be claimed only by the folks who were first on our waiting list. Anyone else who registers will be removed.

  1. if you re open this one, im interested. as a adult

    1. If an event is sold out, or only has youth and children tickets available

A few tickets are currently reserved for youth and children. If these are not sold we can release those to the adults later and they’ll be allocated to people on the waitlist in the order they joined. If you’d like to join the waitlist, please email registrations@macintyregathering.com. I will close the first round of registrations on 10 May, and this is the last date for refunds. On 11 May we can re-allocate unsold youth/child tickets to the adults, and reopen the second round of registrations during May. The last date for taking registrations will be 31 May. That will give us 6 weeks to plan with definite numbers!
